Nigeria must capture those behind kidnapping of schoolgirls - U.S govt

The United States has urged the Nigerian government to go after those responsible for the abduction of over 300 schoolgirls.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the United States Bureau of Africa Affairs on Monday.

The statement said the United States condemned the mass abduction of reportedly over 300 students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, Nigeria and the kidnapping, just days before, of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.

"Those responsible for these crimes must be swiftly captured and held accountable. The Nigerian government must act decisively and do more to protect Christians and ensure Nigerians can live, learn, and practice their religion freely without fear or terror," the bureau said.

This comes a day after President Bola Tinubu announced the freedom of 38 worshippers who were kidnapped by terrorists from. Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

Despite the good news, many Nigerians wondered why no report surfaces concerning the arrest of the terrorists behind the abduction.
