Following the recent scandal that hit the aviation sector, Nigerians have taken to social media to call for the arrest of the Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika.

This comes after the Managing Director of Nigeria Air, Dayo Olumide, revealed that the aeroplane that landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on May 26, 2023, was a chartered plane from Ethiopia Airlines.

While answering questions from the senators on Monday, Olumide disclosed that it was launched in 2018 and that he was only responsible for the procurement of an operating certificate for the airline.

He said, “It is a pleasure to be here and to finally make our position known, where I can clarify all the misconceptions regarding Nigeria Air as it pertains to the technical aspects of it.”

Prior to this, Sirika affirmed at a Federal Executive Council meeting that the national carrier will begin operations before Buhari’s administration winds down on May 29, 2023 and that the council also approved the sum of ₦3.5 billion for a contract for photometric and taxiway lights for Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt airports.

Reacting to the discovery of the Nigeria Air scandal, some Nigerians on social media are demanding the arrest and prosecution of the Minister.
