Trudeau made this statement on the sidelines of the 33rd Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union where himself and President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari held a bilateral meeting in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa.

Both heads of states discussed at length how best to work together to achieve growth for their common benefit.

Trudeau took to Twitter giving a few pointers regarding their meeting.

"As the largest economy & most populous country in Africa, Nigeria’s a key partner for Canada. This morning, President @MBuhari & I spoke about the growing number of Canadian & Nigerian companies working together, as well as other shared priorities," the tweet read.
