The age-old Jollof rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana has finally met an unexpected referee, popular American streamer, Darren Jason Watkins Jr., well known as IShowSpeed.
During his recent African tour, the internet sensation sparked excitement online when he openly declared Nigerian Jollof rice superior to Ghanaian Jollof after tasting both cuisines on his trip.
The moment happened live, in front of cameras and thousands of viewers, instantly sending social media into a frenzy.
While in Nigeria, IShowSpeed was hosted by fans and content creators who introduced him to several local delicacies. However, it was his reaction to Nigerian Jollof rice that stole the spotlight.
After taking a few bites, the streamer visibly lit up, praising the flavour, spice, and overall taste. Laughing and shaking his head, he boldly announced that Nigerian Jollof had taken the crown.
His recent food-tasting experience in Ghana was no exception, as it quickly set social media buzzing.
IShowSpeed was first served a small portion of Ghanaian chicken jollof rice, which he sampled with cautious curiosity, visibly weighing it against the Nigerian jollof he had earlier tasted during his trip.
Moments later, the atmosphere shifted when he was presented with a much larger serving, dramatically dished into a blue inflatable pool overflowing with Ghana jollof rice, all set for his final judgment.
As the spectacle unfolded, a crowd of excited onlookers gathered around, eagerly waiting to see which country’s jollof rice would earn the streamer’s ultimate approval.
After sampling the dishes several times, the young streamer admitted that choosing a winner was not easy. While he praised the rich flavours of Ghanaian jollof, he ultimately leaned toward his earlier experience with Nigerian jollof, declaring, “I have to give it to Nigeria.”
The honest verdict, delivered with clear admiration and sincerity, immediately sparked reactions online. Social media users from both Ghana and Nigeria swiftly joined the conversation, once again reigniting the long-standing rivalry over which country truly makes the best jollof rice.
