Nigeria Elections: Don’t consume everything you see on social media - Comrade Valentine to Nigerians

The Executive President of the National Association of Nigerian students (NANS)- Ghana Chapter, Comrade Ilo Ikenna Valentine has advised Nigerians not to believe and consume every information they see on social media.

Comrade Valentine made the comment in an interview on GhOne TV on Tuesday, February 28 alongside political researcher, Alhassan Bello.

He noted that unverifiable information on social media can generate chaos as the political temperature in the country intensifies.

He has also described the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections as the most peaceful the country has ever held in a long time.

Despite the pocket of violence that has marred the integrity of the elections, he believes that violence is a part of an election of this nature. The 2023 general election has been described as the biggest in Africa after more than 93 million Nigerians registered for their permanent voters card.

“The election have been peaceful, more than many other elections we have seen in Nigeria. The record of violence is not as much as it used to be in Nigeria. There also have been no record of death anywhere in this election just like there have been in the previous ones,” he said.

“So from my own perspective, it’s been as peaceful as possible, except from a few places. Because this is an election, people are passionate, people are putting in a whole lot of emotion into the election and I think it’s impossible for there to be an election without a little bit of violence.”

In concluding, he advised everyone to remain calm as INEC, the electoral umpire does its job.
