Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the just-ended elections has revealed the reason why he would have advised against a military intervention in Niger at the height of the coup.

He made this known in an interview on Arise TV on Monday, October 2.

Obi, a huge critic of the Tinubu administration simply said Nigeria which is at war internally shouldn't be thinking about fighting external wars.

Recall that on July 26, 2023, a coup d'état occurred in Niger when the country's presidential guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum, and Presidential Guard commander General Abdourahamane Tchiani proclaimed himself the leader of a new military junta, shortly after confirming the coup a success.

Obi said he is a firm believer in a democratic process as he condemned the coupist.

"I am completely against military intervention as a process of leaders emerging. I am a believer in a democratic process and a genuinely elected process. I am a Democrat and I believe in democracy and that should be the process."

"Will I go to war, it is a capital no! The reason is that we have war at home. You can not go to war externally when you have war at home."
