Former Nigerian Diplomat, Ibrahim Mai-Sule has said that rigging your way to win an election is also a coup.

He said this while cautioning people to extremely careful with the “sit-tight leaders” who are bent on going to war in the West Africa country in an attempt to restore President Mohammed Bazoum to power and end the coup.

Mai-Sule noted that should the war occur in Niger Republic, Nigerans will be affected negatively.

Speaking in an interview with Arise Television Morning Show, he said; “One has to be extremely careful with these sit-tight leaders because obviously the coup is not only the idea of the military taking over the government, a coup is where actually people extend their limit beyond what constitutionally is been provided for. That is also a coup, when you rig yourself into an election, is also a coup."

ECOWAS recently announced that the military troops should be ready on standby to be deployed to Niger.

The former diplomat further raised concerns over fear that the ECOWAS would get caught up in a proxy war between Russia and the West.

Russia had declared support for Niger Republic against any foreign influence preventing them from being independent in running the affairs of their own country.

“So, basically the problem of these leaders is I am right and everybody is wrong. Because one has to look seriously into the kind of thing. My fear is that we shouldn’t allow these people to take us into another proxy war in the sense that in Niger, the Wagnar military troops of Russia are already there,” the former diplomat said.
