The Lagos State lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Ganiyu Johnson, who presented the bill to stop Nigerian-trained doctors and dental practitioners from travelling out of the country for five years.

The bill which has passed the second reading, has sent tongues wagging among Nigerians as many call the bill hypocrisy.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari spent most of his first term in a hospital in the United Kingdom leaving the citizens without a president for a long period of time.

The recently elected president, Bola Tinubu was also reported to have travelled abroad for medical care after falling ill shortly after the 2023 election.

These politicians have all been known to seek medical care from foreign countries but are planning to pass a bill to prevent doctors from travelling out of Nigeria for five years.

Reacting to this, Netizens expressed their disgust at the politicians for been hypocrites.

michaeluwas: Hw abt once a politician is elected, he or she cannot travel out of the country for 8 years

jnrpope: How can these people be this clueless, see how this one is seriously disgracing his family there….. I am very sure he did not discuss this with either his wife or children ( that is if they are in Nigeria) before coming here . In fact if your child/ children are not schooling in Nigeria, such a person should not be elected into office…….

deejayneptune: It's the confidence in the rubbish he's saying for me. SMH

sir_kay: Why not Pass a bill to refurbish existing medical facilities, equip existing medical facilities, and build more medical facilities while reviewing the remuneration of healthcare workers simultaneously? The $800 million loan would have gone a long way. who is directing the movie called Nigeria?

iam_ojay_igwe: Nigeria doctors are one of the most drilled set of medical professionals. It takes a lot to become a doctor in Nigeria yet they are the least appreciated! How many doctors in Nigeria actually live like they spent that amount of years becoming professionals? No government support, nothing! In fact you make them work under worst conditions and then when they seek to go to where they are appreciated you try to stop them! Wickedness! Even home care workers in Europe and America earn far better than doctors in Nigeria, you can imagine. This APC guys are a menace! I’ve never seen.

layfield73: Bloody lier!! Which government trained which doctors?? The same doctors whose parents have had to sell their belongings to see their children and ward through medical schools are the ones you're speaking crab about that the government spent its money to train? Don't worry, your bill even it scales through a 3rd reading is useless. Good news for disillusioned lawmakers like you who are not in tuned with the reality of pain the masses are facing, your bill just killed medical studies here in Nigeria. Cotonou, Accra etc, here comes our Nigerian medical students for your training and licensing, they are all yours and more..tufia kwa

princeiykeolisa: Which society exactly? The society that frustrated a medical student to stay 12years reading medicine instead of 6years due to incessant strikes. A system that made even some families sell their lands and properties just to pay school fees, etc... The system that made females among them to see hell trying to pacify Mr. Lecturer, only to mention but a few.

gylliananthonette: Welcome to Nigeria where abuja isn't the capital again, London is now the capita
