Once again, Nigeria's power grid has failed, plunging certain regions into darkness and interrupting electricity supply for millions of homes and businesses.
A look into the situation shows a precipitous drop in electricity generation, plummeting from over 4,500 megawatts to a mere 24 megawatts by 1:30 pm.
All 23 interconnected power plants ceased operations during the outage, leaving the 11 electricity distribution companies without any power allocation.
The exact reason for the collapse remains unclear, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria has yet to release an official explanation as of this report.
This marks the first grid failure of 2026, following a similar breakdown on December 29, 2025, which also resulted in widespread power outages across the nation.
