Religious activities will resume in Nasarawa state as the government on Tuesday announced it has lifted the almost 80-days ban placed on it to curb the spread of the deadly COVID-19.

Governor Abdullahi Sule granted the lifting of the ban he imposed on March 2, despite the spike in COVID-19 cases in the country with the current toll standing at over 6000 infections, according to the NCDC.

While briefing reporters on Tuesday at the Government House in Lafia, Mr Dogo Shammah, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism made said the lifting was for two weeks.

The commissioner, however, said that the lifting of the ban was for two weeks with certain conditions that religious leaders and their followers must meet.

Safety measures such as the compulsory use of face masks by members, provision of hand sanitiser and running water as well as observing physical distancing at the worship centres must be adhered to.

After 14 days, the government said it will review the level of compliance with the conditions.

To ensure that the measures are followed, the government would provide hand sanitiser and thermometer for the churches and mosques, the commissioner said.

Commercial tricycles have also been permitted to operate but with a limit of two passengers and must wear a face mask.

Taraba, Ebonyi, Borno, Gombe and Adamawa States have also lifted the ban on religious gatherings.
