Names, political parties of women contesting governorship office in 2023

Nigeria has never had a female state governor.

But there are women working hard toward changing the narrative in 2023.

MyNigeria has listed some female governorship candidates across all political parties who may be making history if they win the elections.

Here are the female governorship candidates for 2023:

1. Aishatu Ahmed, Adamawa State

Senator Ayishatu Ahmed is the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress in Adamawa. She defeated a former EFCC Chairman and a serving House of Reps member to land the ticket. She was a member of the House of Reps between 2011 and 2015 and has been a senator since 2019.


2. Nnenna Lancaster-Okoro, Abia State

She is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party in Abia. She had unsuccessful runs in senatorial elections in 2015, 2016 and 2019 with APC and YPP.


3. Ngozi Ogbuleke, Abia state

She is the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Abia.


4. Obiang Marikane Stanley, Cross River State

She is the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party in Cross River.


5. Beatrice Itubo

She is the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Rivers State. She is also the Chairperson of the Nigerian Labour Congress in the state.


6. Sophia Cookey Stanley

She is the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party in rivers.


7. Tina Barde

She is the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Niger.


8. Khadija Abdullahi

She is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Niger.


9. Sufiat Adekemi Iskil-Ogunyomi

She is the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Ogun.


10. Kassim Jackie Adunni

She is the governorship candidate of the Nigeria People's Party.
