Name, shame and prosecute lawmaker identified as secessionists’ sponsor - Reps to Buhari

House of Representatives House of Representatives

The House of Representatives has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to name, shame and prosecute the lawmakers found to be sponsoring terrorists and secessionist groups in the country.

During plenary on Tuesday, October 5, the members of parliament believe that the president has made all 469 lawmakers suspects by failing to name the Reps involved.

Prior to this, President Buhari during his Independence Day speech, he said that the government has identified members of the National Assembly who have been found to be sponsoring the secessionist groups.

Buhari said: “The recent arrests of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo, and the ongoing investigations being conducted, have revealed certain high-profile financiers behind these individuals.

“We are vigorously pursuing these financiers including one identified as a serving member of the National Assembly.”

Lawmaker representing Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State, Ben Rollands Igbakpa, was of the view that after the president's speech, his privilege was breached.

He said: “The President, in his speech, noted that one of us is sponsoring terrorism. That means we are prime suspects. He didn’t name that person.

“They have been calling me from all over the world. My friends have been saying who among you is sponsoring terrorists? All of us are prime suspects.”

He however, called for the naming and immediate prosecution of the sponsors.
