Naira Scarcity: Protest turn bloody as 3 feared killed, banks destroyed during protest in Edo state

Report indicates that three people have been feared dead following the violent protest over the scarcity of the new Naira notes in Benin, Edo state.

On Wednesday, February 15, a protest turned violent due in Benin city as a result of the unavailability of funds and the failure of the banks to allow customers access to their money.

It was gathered that the protesters attempted to break into the State branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) located along Akpakpava Street, a commercial nerve center in Benin City, where most commercial banks are also located.

The violent protesters were said to have attacked some commercial banks located in the area, destroying some bank properties in the process.

Some residents during the protest chanted "no money, no vote" as they call on the government to make available the new Naira notes.
