Naira Scarcity: Is it Emefiele's fault again? - Rufai Oseni quizzes

Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria

Award winning journalist, Rufai Oseni has raised concerns over the recent naira scarcity that has hit some states in the country.

He quizzed if the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele is also responsible for the present naira scarcity that has hit the country.

Taking to his x page on Thursday, November 23, he wrote;

"Is it Emefiele fault again?? The CBN should do something.”

"Naira scarcity again is it Emefiele that caused this one? What is happening ooo”

In another post shared on his social media page, he lamented over the failure of the government to apprehend the suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hudu Yunusa Ari who reportedly fled to Niger after starting an electoral coup in favour of the APC.

According to Oseni, instead of the authorities to investigate and arrest Mr Ari, they rearrested Emefiele despite the court granting him bail.

He further asks why Nigerians fail to respect the laws of the country.

"Mr Ari flees to Niger after starting an electoral coup in favour of APC in Adamawa while the authorities are trying to rearrest Emefiele after the court granted him bail. Do we respect laws in our country at all.

Recall that in January 2023, the Central Bank of Nigeria claimed that it had supplied the commercial banks in the country with enough cash in line with its currency design policy.

The apex bank allegedly directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute bank officials who were accused of sabotaging the new currency policy.

However, as Nigerians became disappointed after trooping to the banks to collect cash but was insufficient.

The angry customers began to burn down bank buildings and destroy Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in some states.
