The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Taraba State has commenced the provision of free medical intervention to several communities.

The Taraba Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Tony Nzoka, said the aim of the programme was to bring health care delivery to the doorsteps of rural folks.

Nzoka specially called on the residents of Wuro Sembe Community in Jalingo Local Government Area to take advantage of the opportunity to access free and quality health services provided by the NYSC health professionals during the four-day programme.

Alhaji Abdulnasir Boboji, the Chairman of the Jalingo Local Government Council, who described the health initiative as a privilege for the people of the community, also called on the people of the community to take advantage of the programme to get their health conditions diagnosed and treated.

Still speaking, Bobboji advised that the capacity of the scheme should be strengthened so that it could be more effective and beneficial to the unity of Nigeria and its service to humanity.

Commenting on the proposed scrapping of the NYSC, the Chairman said, “I want to appeal to those championing the campaign for the scrapping of NYSC to have a rethink as the benefit of the scheme outweigh the issues being raised.”

Newsmen gathered that the beneficiaries, who were mostly women, said that the free health initiative programme would help them treat most of the health challenges facing them.

Hajiya Fatima Kachalla, who spoke on behalf of the women beneficiaries lauded the scheme for the initiative which brought health care services close to the indigent rural dwellers.

In her words, “Most of us cannot afford regular quality health care services. So, this programme will provide an opportunity for us to access quality health at no cost. We want to thank the NYSC for this great opportunity and service to our community and humanity.”
