NYSC: Anambra guarantees safe orientation camp resumption

The Anambra State Government has promised the provision of adequate support services to guarantee the safe resumption of activities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) ahead of planned re-opening of Orientation Camps nationwide.

Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Prof. Theresa Obiekezie gave the assurance while hosting a delegation of NYSC led by its Director, South East Area Office, Alhaji Ahmed Ikaka.

She pledged the government’s commitment to putting the orientation camp in good condition for the incoming corps members posted to the state, as well as sustain their safety.

“The government has been supporting the scheme to enable it fully actualise the objective of youths development, capacity building and value re-orientation.

“The working relationship between the state government and the scheme will be strengthened so as to impact the lives of corps members,” she said.

Earlier, Ikaka noted that the creation of a safe and enabling environment for the corps members was crucial to their wellbeing.

He revealed the scheme’s commitment to generating manpower especially, in secondary schools across the nation, adding that corps members were fully engaged in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We collaborated with NCDC in many areas. Some corps members produced sanitisers and hand washing equipment that are helpful against the pandemic," he stated.

The Director praised the government for the provision of infrastructure, just as he requested for the construction of more hostels as well as quarters for its staff members.

“The state in the past had one of the worst orientation camps in the nation, but presently under the watch of the present administration, they never had it so good."
