Captain of Nigeria Women’s Football League side, Pelican Stars, William Hodo, has backed the decision of the NWFL board to postpone the women’s league following clubs non-compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

Aisha Falode, NWFL chairperson, on Sunday, announced the postponement of the NWFL by another one month in a frantic bid to ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 preventive protocols.

The league was earlier postponed by one week amid reports that clubs flouted COVID-19 protocols, before the latest decision by the NWFL.

Speaking with The Punch, Hodo said, “I don’t feel alright with the postponement of the league for another one month because we were already having fun after several months out.

“But I must add that it is not the fault of the NWFL board that the league had to be postponed; they just wanted to ensure that the right things were done.

“I want to plead with the clubs to do the needful by ensuring that their players have their COVID-19 tests were which we (Pelican) had done here. We had our tests done last Saturday.”
