Akwa United defeated ten-man Lobi Stars 3-0 to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in the NPFL. Kennedy Boboye kept faith with the bulk of the team which defeated MFM in Lagos last weekend with mid-season signing Nasiru Jibril the only change in the Akwa United lineup.

Lobi Stars on their part paraded the same team that defeats Rivers United 4-1 at the Aper Aku Stadium last Sunday.

A fantastic first-half display from Akwa United ensured that they picked all three points against their sorry opponents.

The first goal of the game was scored after 17 minutes, Ikechukwu Nwani reacted quickly to tap home Samson Gbadebo’s low cross in the back of the net.

Mfon Udoh doubled the lead for the hosts in 23rd minutes after combining well with joint leading scorer Ndifreke Effiong.

Lobi Stars’ coach Kabiru Dogo reacted and decided to make a change in 35th minutes as he pulled out Austin Ogunye who seemed lost in the game for Sunday Jimoh Oni. Substitute Oni.

Despite the change, the visitors conceded their third goal of the game with last kick of the first half.

Nasiru Jibril tore the same left side of Lobi Stars defense for a flick left-footed cross to Mfon Udoh who smashed home for his second goal of the game.

Lobi Stars were reduced to ten-man in the closing stages of the game after goalkeeper Aliko was shown a straight red for handling the ball with his hands outside the box in an attempt to stop a goal-bound move.

The result moved Akwa United to second with 32 points, while Lobi Stars dropped one step down from 9th position on the log to 10th with 25 points.
