NGO sensitises women on exclusive breast feeding

Centre for Youth Challenge and Initiative Development, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Nasarawa State, has tasked market women to embrace exclusive breastfeeding considering its health benefits to their children.

The group’s Executive Director, Mr Yakubu Asso stated this on Monday during an awareness campaign on exclusive breastfeeding and nutritional food for children in Shabu, near Lafia.

Asso said that exclusive breastfeeding was critical to the growth and development of children, hence the need for the sensitisation campaign.

“The essence of this programme is to educate you on the need to embrace exclusive breastfeeding considering its benefit to children.

“You are to breastfeed your child exclusively for six months after birth as this will help the child to grow mentally and physically thereby making them healthy, ” he said.

Asso also disclosed that the organisation had trained women on the use of Soybeans to prepare healthy local delicacy that would facilitate the growth of children.

He advised women, especially mothers to imbibe the culture of eating a balanced diet, given its important to both the mothers and babies.

He said the organisation was to initiating good health policies and programmes that would have a direct bearing on the lives of Nigerians.
