The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed new cases of the novel coronavirus in 12 states in the country including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to its record, 83 cases were confirmed in Lagos, the epicenter of the disease while a bulk of the new cases were confirmed in Plateau State.

In Kaduna, 17 cases were confirmed, 16 recorded in Abuja, 11 in Ogun, seven in Katsina, four in Imo and three each in Edo and Nasarawa.

While two cases were detected in Rivers, one case each was recorded in Bayelsa, Osun and Oyo state.

A total of 43,810 patients has now been discharged from isolation centres, while two more deaths raise coronavirus death raise the total of casualities in the country to 1,075.

Despite the increase in case count, a consultant obstetrics and gynaecology, Prof. Rotimi Jaiyesimi, said it is wrong to say the country has reached the peak of COVID-19 pandemic.

In a virtual media roundtable discussion organised by the Nigerian Academy of Science on the topic,‘COVID-19 in Nigeria: Knowing the Myths and Facts’,he opined that the country was also far from flattening the COVID-19 curve.

“Having the virus does not mean you will have severe disease. The numbers of people who end up having severe cases are those with co-morbidities.
