Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu has explained why daily coronavirus updates come in very late.

Giving a little hint of how the tests run, Ihekweazu revealed that the tests come in as early as 6 pm.

However, he noted that the cases need to be confirmed state by state before it is rolled out.

He also added that a mutual agreement had to be reached between the states before figures are announced. This, he explained, was to avoid a dispute of figures. He also noted that where figures cannot be ascertained, the agency just leaves it blank.

"We have the results by 6 pm but we check in with the state. Sometimes we can't reach them. Sometimes we don't announce until we reach someone to confirm it," the NCDC boss explained.

In recent times, people have complained about how they have had to wait up past midnight for results to be released.
