NBA President Yakubu Maikyau claps back at national officers who accused him of undermining their duties

The National Bar Association, NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau has accused the national officers of misappropriation of funds.

Following the accusations levelled against him at the 2023 NBA General Meeting, by the NBA treasurer, 2nd and 3rd vice president, Maikyau did not hesitate to clapback.

Recall that the National Treasurer, Caroline Anze-Bishop refused to announce the financial records of the NBA during the General Meeting because the statement was given to her to announce without her input.

Responding to the allegations, Maikyau slammed the national officers saying that they made such accusations because he refused to allow her spend the funds of the NBA.

In his explanation he said; "If you're an elected national officer, you don't live off the association. Go and do your work. When you're needed you come and serve the association. You're the one that signed on, so don't complain that you don't have time for your work. Some of the national officers including the third vice, stayed here for two weeks in hotel paid for by the bar practising fee, fed by your bar practising fee and also given per diem of N30,000 everyday for the period that she stayed behind. Wanted me to pay, I said I will not pay."

Maikyau questioned their reason for staying behind from January 31, to February 14. According to him, the explanation given for their actions was; 1 meeting with the President on the 1st, on the 6th the president's birthday. Claims he denied.

In his defense he noted that he had already warned the national officers on how they spend the NBA funds and that it wasn't going to happen under his tenure.
