The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ghana Chapter, Comrade Gbemileke Tabiti Kolawole, has expressed deep concern over the current state of the students’ union, citing inadequate support and limited resources.
Comrade Gbemileke made this known while speaking with MyNigeria on the sidelines of the APC Youth Wing West Africa Town Hall Meeting, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at ESP Hotel, Accra, Ghana.
According to him, the responsibility for the welfare of Nigerian students in Ghana has largely fallen to the union’s leadership, often without external assistance. He noted that this situation has placed a significant burden on student leaders.
He revealed that, in many instances, personal funds are used to bring students together, organize programmes, and address welfare-related issues affecting members of the union.
The NANS Ghana president, therefore, called on the Nigerian government to pay closer attention to the union's leadership and operations, stressing that improved funding, resources, and institutional support are crucial for its effective functioning.
He explained that equipping the students’ union with adequate resources would not only ease the burden on its leaders but also enhance transparency, accountability, and coordination among Nigerian students in Ghana.
Comrade Gbemileke added that such measures would strengthen the relationship between the union and Nigerian students across various institutions in Ghana.
He also used the opportunity to invite Nigerian students in Ghana, Ghanaian students, and other international students to the forthcoming 4-Day NANS Camp Week, scheduled to hold from February 25 to 28, 2026.
The camp week, he said, is designed to foster leadership development, promote cultural exchange, encourage networking, and provide engaging recreational activities for participants.
