The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, has briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the Council’s ongoing efforts to accelerate the development of Nigeria’s automotive industry, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to industrialisation and global competitiveness.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, provided an opportunity for the NADDC chief to update the President on the Council’s programmes, achievements and strategic priorities aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem.
According to Osanipin, discussions centred on initiatives to boost local vehicle manufacturing, deepen the automotive value chain, promote innovation, encourage investment and create an enabling environment for sustainable industry growth.
He thanked President Tinubu for his continued support for the automotive sector, noting that the administration’s industrialisation agenda has provided the policy direction needed to drive the industry’s transformation.
“The President’s commitment to industrial development continues to inspire our efforts to build a globally competitive automotive industry that supports economic growth, creates jobs and reduces dependence on imported vehicles,” Osanipin said.
He reaffirmed the Council’s resolve to implement programmes that will enhance local manufacturing capacity, attract both domestic and foreign investment, promote technology transfer, develop skilled manpower and increase local content across the automotive value chain.
Osanipin added that the automotive sector remains a strategic pillar of the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda, expressing confidence that sustained policy support and collaboration with industry stakeholders will position Nigeria as a leading automotive manufacturing hub in Africa.
