Bashir Ahmad, aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari has hailed the Central Bank of Nigeria on the measures taken to strengthen the Naira.
In a post shared on his X page on Monday, April 15, 2024, Ahmad noted that the US dollar is currently being exchanged at a rate below one thousand naira at some bureaux de change (BDCs).
Excited by the news, Ahmad showered praises on the CBN saying their efforts are working and is confident that the Naira will continue to gain.
"I can authoritatively confirm that the US dollar is now being exchanged at a rate below N1000 at some BDCs. The measures being taken by the CBN to strengthen our Naira are definitely working. Naira will continue gaining!" he said.
His post attracted some reactions from social media users;
@Isabgah: My concern is that I’m yet to see the prices of things dropping in the markets. Isn't the dollar the problem from the beginning?
@Iorlaha_Dave: But it’s so unfortunate the prices of goods and services have not dropped the way they rose when the dollar was on a rise.
So it is safe to say the government has never been our problem, we Nigerians are our problem. Greedy and selfishness have eaten too deep into us.
@raji_abduljelil: am so happy with Cardoso, he is doing a great work
@nigerianpollz: We applaud the measures but I hope it's not something that will bite us later
@iam_catoma: So what do you want Nigerians to do? You want us to celebrate? When you and your oga collected power what was USD rate?, if you people feel shame you shouldn't post this until you people APC return USD to 180 as you people met it. You don’t have shame at all, you was same person who campaign against USD for 180 and you said it will be 1 USD to 1 naira. Nigerians don’t know it’s just scam.
@AlienJermaine: When are we going to start agreeing we are our own problem as much as the government is. The dollar rate goes up and immediately these sellers increase their prices but ever since it started coming down they will give any excuse to keep selling at the same prices or even more it is just sickening. You bought in larger sums so you can’t bring the prices down yet but when the dollar rate was going up you didn’t wait to sell off all your old stock before raising the prices. Greed, greed, greed everywhere!!!
