Belgium winger Jérémy Doku has announced his decision to withdraw from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in order to return home and support his wife as they prepare to welcome their first child.

According to the footballer, the decision came unexpectedly despite Belgium being in the crucial knockout stage of the competition, where every match has become increasingly demanding.

Yet when my wife told me her due date was drawing nearer my heart made it clear. My family needs me right now.”
