Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide has defended Atiku Abubakar who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This follows the revelation that Atiku who is currently against the Muslim-Muslim ticket by the All Progressives Congress (APC) once supported it in 1993.

In the book, ‘My Life' written by the former vice president, he supported the presidential ambition of Moshood Abiola at the time and even lobbied for the vice presidential slot.

Abiola, however, opted for Babagana Kingibe as his running mate in the election ahead or Atiku.

Atiku in the book claimed that the late former president, Umaru Musa Yar’adua, at the time was pissed with the betrayal of Abiola who had dropped Atiku for Kingibe.

Omokri who is a known stalwart of the Atiku campaign on his Twitter handle said
that Atiku may have supported the Abiola-Kingibe ticket in 1993 because there was no terrorism and banditry.

The former Presidential aide added that there was no reason to doubt the Muslim-Muslim ticket in 1993, admitting that he also supported Abiola to emerge as President.

He wrote: “Yes, Atiku may have supported Abiola-Kingibe Muslim-Muslim ticket in 1993, but this is 2023. In 1993, there was no Boko Haram or ISWAP. We did not have bandits. There was no Hisbah in Kano. Muslims were not heading all 3 arms of government. Even me, I supported MKO!”
