Nigerian Afrobeats singer Okafor Uchenna Victor, popularly known as Mr Real, has blown the whistle on a deceptive new trend dominating local party culture.
The artist, while speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page alleged that some Nigerians are now hiring people to spray money at parties to pressure guests into spraying money.
“Some Nigerians now rent people to spray money at their parties. What sort of business is that? Let me break it down for you. It is crazy. Don’t believe everything you see on social media or at events. A chaos broke out at night in a hotel I lodged in recently in Abuja. So, I went up to check what was happening. I saw someone I knew and asked him, but he said we should go to my hotel room because he couldn’t discuss it outside. When we got to my hotel room, he told me that the boys involved in the altercation are called ‘money sprayers’. What they do is that people rent them to spray money at their events to pressure guests into spraying. The amount they spray at an event depends on their agreement with the host. They also spray dollars,” he said.
Mr Real also warned Nigerians not to believe or feel pressured by everything they see online or at events.
“What led to the disagreement at the Abuja hotel was that the host found counterfeit 800 dollars in the money that was sprayed at the event. The host accused them of spraying the counterfeit money, but they insisted that they didn’t spray it, arguing that it could have been the celebrant’s friends. I was shocked to discover that there is a business like that. People will be feeling pressured watching others spraying money, not knowing that it was staged. My guy also told me that ‘money sprayers’ are rampant in Lagos, too, especially Lekki,” he added.
