Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has been dealt a huge blow with the injury to Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers.
Dessers sustained a serious injury during Rangers' UEFA Champions League qualification match against Viktoria Plzen at the Doosan Arena on Tuesday, March 12.
The 30-year-old, who scored in the first leg as the Scottish giants secured a crucial 3-0 victory, was substituted in the 51st minute, as Rangers qualified despite suffering a 2-1 defeat.
Rangers will now face Club Brugge in the next round of UCL qualification.
Dessers' injury comes against the backdrop of the Home Eagles’ disappointing 4-0 loss to Sudan in the ongoing African Nations Championship, a result that has placed head coach Eric Chelle under immense pressure.
The timing of Dessers’ injury is particularly troubling for Chelle, as his next major task is to reignite Nigeria's World Cup qualification campaign, which begins next month.
The three-time African champions will face Rwanda and South Africa in crucial World Cup qualifiers next month.
