Mohbad’s father insists on DNA test before burial

Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, has reiterated that his son will not be buried until a DNA test is conducted to determine the paternity of the singer’s child.

A Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu had earlier ordered a Deoxyribonucleic Acid test to establish whether Liam Aloba is the biological son of the deceased.

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga gave the order while ruling on an application filed by Aloba.

Speaking in a video posted on his TikTok account and seen by PUNCH Metro on Sunday, Aloba alleged that certain influential individuals were attempting to frustrate the process.

He also disclosed plans to explore the possibility of transferring the case out of Lagos State.

“Some powerful people have connived to use Mohbad’s death to frustrate me. After the toxicology was done, nothing came out of it, and now they have gone to pick a questionable DNA centre,” he said.

“If possible, we will seek to transfer the case from Lagos to Ekiti State. I will consult my lawyer on that.”

Insisting on the DNA test, Aloba appealed to the Lagos State Government to allow him to proceed with the burial, stressing that the test remains a key condition.

“I am calling on the Lagos State Government to allow me to bury my son, but without DNA, we cannot proceed. It is part of the evidence,” he said.

He also urged members of the public to support his demand, noting that the test is necessary to establish critical facts.

PUNCH Metro had earlier reported that the family’s legal representatives raised concerns over the capacity of some laboratories selected for the paternity test.

The family’s counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, disclosed that the court, on February 24, 2026, directed that the test be conducted in three mutually agreed laboratories to ensure transparency.

The laboratories include DNA Diagnostics Centre, AlphaBiolabs, and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited.

According to the lawyer, preliminary checks raised concerns about the technical competence of some of the facilities.

Mohbad died in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, sparking nationwide outrage and legal disputes over his estate, royalties and paternity.

His son, Liam, was born in April 2023, months before his death, and the paternity issue has continued to generate widespread public interest.
