Mistaken identity: Osun hunter shoots neighbour to death

An amateur hunter has mistakenly shot another to death along Ijeda road, Erinmo Ijesa in Oriade local government area of Osun State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred about 4pm on Thursday, after both of them had launch together in the family house of the victim.

Eyewitnesses alleged that while the amateur hunter and others went hunting around the nearby
bush, the victim went to the nearby brook to wash his clothes.

"On his way home after washing, one of his friends in broad day while hunting mistook him for an antelope and opened fire which hit the victim on the chest and he died on the spot."

Eye witnesses alleged that immediately the victim screamed, the suspect realized he shot a human being and not an antelope he took to his heels shooting that he has killed a human being and that he should be killed too.

It was observed that there are proliferations of under aged operating in the town regardless of the time of the day.

Meanwhile, the corpse of the victim has been deposited in a morgue.

Effort to speak with the Police Public Relations in the state, Yemisi Opalola was unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report as she was said to be busy at the passing out parade of the Outgoing AIG , Zone 11 Command, Sikiru Akande in Osogbo.
