Ministerial list: Omokri expresses concern for native residents as Tinubu appoints Wike as FCT Minister

Reno Omokri Reno Omokri

Former presidential adviser and ardent Atiku Abubakar supporter, Reno Omokri has offered his opinion on Nyesome Wike's appointment as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by the president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu.

Recall that on Wednesday, August 15, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu designated Wike as the FCT's Minister.

However, Omokri believes that Wike's appointment will be disappointing for the indigenous people of the FCT, who he claims have never held a ministerial position.

He asserts that Wike's nomination is the first for a Southerner to be designated FCT Minister since Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun was given that title in 1976.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Omokri wrote, “The appointment by President Bola Tinubu of ex-Governor Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory will mark the first time a Southerner has been appointed FCT Minister since Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun was appointed to that position in 1976 by the then Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo.

“It has taken forty-seven years for a non-Northerner to occupy that position again and coincidentally, just like in 1976, the person was appointed by a fellow Southerner.

“Sadly, the original indigenous [people] of the area now known as the Federal Capital Territory have never been appointed minister. Hopes had been high that the President would appoint the first FCT indigene ever nominated as a minister, Zephaniah Jisalo, to that position. But we have seen the way the cookie crumbled.”
