AC Milan are preparing to open contract talks with Samuel Chukwueze, with the Nigeria international’s impressive start to the season prompting the Serie A club to consider extending his stay beyond 2028, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 27-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, has started each of Milan’s opening three league matches and provided two assists after being handed a fresh role as a right-sided wing-back by manager Ruben Amorim. He set up Adrien Rabiot’s goal against Torino before teeing up Alphadjo Cisse last weekend at Juventus, while also offering a solid defensive contribution in his unfamiliar position.

According to Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira, the Rossoneri are now ready to begin negotiations with the winger’s representatives over a renewal that could keep him at the club until 2031. His existing contract runs until June 2028, though talks over an extension are yet to formally begin.

Chukwueze has struggled to establish himself as a first-choice player since joining Milan from Villarreal in July 2023, with inconsistent form and limited game time previously fuelling speculation over a possible exit.

His early-season displays under Amorim, who has spoken highly of the Nigerian since his first press conference in charge, appear to have changed that outlook considerably.

For now, the player’s focus remains on the pitch, as he looks to build on what has been described as his best start to a season since arriving in Italy.
