Messi in, Ronaldo out: L’Equipe name its 2022 Team of the Year

French publication L'Equipe has named its team of the year for 2022 featuring four Premier League stars.

The players included in the list are thought to have played a significant role for either club or country after the busy football calendar which included the World Cup in Qatar.

According to The Sun, L'Equipe is renowned for its savage scoring of players and it is often considered a massive privilege to get rated by it.

Despite his World Cup struggles, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was named between the sticks in the team of the year, primarily for his role in helping the La Liga giants win the Champions League.

Rising defensive star Josko Gvardiol earned his spot in the XI after emerging as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

Gvaridol was named at the heart of defence alongside Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, with Theo Hernandez making the cut on left-back after he helped AC Milan win the Serie A.
