Melaye compares Nigeria and Kenya's spending of FIFA's $1.2m on stadium, says 'rogues, thieves'

Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has lamented the quality of the stadium built by Nigeria after the country received $1.2 million from the World football governing body, FIFA.

This was as he compared the stadium built in Kebbi State to the one currently under construction in Kenya.

According to him, Nigeria and Kenya received the same amount from FIFA but are producing different quality.

He shared on X, "FIFA gave Nigeria $1.2 million, and they gave Kenya $1.2 million. The goal was for both of them to build stadiums for football development. Our moral fabrics is gone, we celebrate rogues, we honor thieves. Up APC."

However, an X user revealed that Melaye's claims are wrong, stating that the stadium in Kenya actually costs $250 million.

@TheKayodeBadmus said, "Dear Senator Dino Melaye, you have aides who can carry out research for you and a simple check would have saved you from this embarrassing post.

"That stadium is called Talanta Sports Stadium, which is undergoing construction in Nairobi, Kenya.

"The construction cost alone is estimated at $250 million, in fact the funders had to list KSh 44.79 billion, which is about $350million infrastructure asset-backed security at the Nairobi Securities Exchange to fund the project.

"As a public figure (even if you are not a respected one), you shouldn’t jump on everything you see on social media. Do better former distinguished Senator.
