Meet the three Nigerians appointed in the Biden-Harris Administration

After the recently held election in America, President-elect Joe Biden has appointed several persons of Nigerian descent to hold key positions in his administration.

This development came as a surprise to many with some applauding the president-elect on his bold decisions.

Many Nigerians are, however, confident in the works of the appointed persons into the American government.

Below are some Nigerian appointees of the Biden-Harris administration.

Adewale Adeyemo

Adewale Adeyemo is a 39-year-old Nigerian-American who was born in Ogun State, Nigeria.

He is the first Africa-American to be appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury by President-elect Joe Biden on November 30, 2020.

Been an advocate for multilateralism, Adewale’s experience in the country’s management of economic affairs is expected to help the US out of its worst economic state.

President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina took to his official Twitter handle to congratulate Adewale for taking up a significant role as the Deputy Secretary of Treasury in the United States. According to him, Adewale has raised hopes for many and he is proud of him.





Osaremen Okolo



Nigerian-American Osaremen Okolo has also been appointed as a member of the Coronavirus Response Team.

Osaremen is from Edo state in Nigeria who was born and raised in Massachusetts.

The 26-year-old graduated with honors in Medicine from Havard University in the year 2017. She will serve as Covid-19 Advisor to President-elect Joe Biden.

Prior to her appointment, Osaremen worked as Legislative Aide for Health Policy on di U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labour, and Pensions (HELP) for Ranking Member Patty Murray of Washington.

Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo



Another appointed Nigerian into the U.S President-elect, Joe Biden's administration is Nigerian-American Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo.

She will serve as an Associate Counsel at the Office of the White House Counsel

Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo is a graduate of Political Science from the University of California with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard University. She also holds a Law Doctorate from the University of California School of Law.

Before her recent appointment, she was the General Counsel of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus crisis. Her career began as an associate lawyer.
