Reno Omokri, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has stated that ex-President Muhammadu Buhari left behind a legacy “worthy of emulation in many areas,” in reaction to news of his passing.
His comment came shortly after the death of the former president was announced by one of his aides in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, August 13.
Bashir Ahmad, in the post, said Buhari died at a clinic in London in the afternoon.
Excerpts of his post reads: “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”
President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023 after previously leading the country as a military head of state between 1983 and 1985, was known for his stance on anti-corruption and efforts to stabilise the economy.
In a swift reaction, Reno Omokri, who had been a strong critic of Buhari throughout his tenure, prayed for the repose of the former president, stating, “May his sins be forgiven.”
"From God we came and to Him we return. My family and I pray that Almighty God grants President Muhammadu Buhari al-Jannah firdaus. May his sins be forgiven, and may As-Sami, السميع, (The All-Hearing) grant his family the fortitude to bear their loss. He served Nigeria in peacetime and war and left a legacy that was worthy of emulation in many areas," his post reads.
