A post on X by Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, has gone viral following her tragic death on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Fondly called Sommie, Maduagwu was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe district of Abuja.

In the resurfaced post, which has drawn widespread reactions after her passing, she wrote: “I pray from the depth of my heart that Nigeria never happens to me or anyone I care about.”

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday. Police say investigations are ongoing.

In a statement released by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of Arise TV management, the station described Maduagwu as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family.”

“Sommie tragically passed away in the early hours of Monday following an armed robbery incident in her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja, which is being investigated by the Nigeria Police,” the statement read.

Her death has continued to spark an outpouring of grief, with condolences flooding both traditional and social media platforms.
