Maryam Sanda sentenced to death for stabbing husband

Maryam Sanda has been sentenced to death by a High Court in Abuja for stabbing to death her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, the son of former PDP National Chairman, Mr Haliru Bello.

The judgment which came as a shock to Sanda saw her run out of the dock but was caught by officials in court who returned her to the dock.

Sanda could be heard wailing and shouting saying, “Inna lilahi Inna roji hun”, as her family and lawyer try to console her. She was heard saying, “I was fasting and praying … Ya Allah, why?”

She was accused of stabbing her husband on November 19, 2017, after she found a text message on his phone which led to suspicion of infidelity.

She was then charged to court on culpable homicide by the police who sought a death penalty after accusing her of stabbing her husband with broken bottles, an act they said was premeditated.
