A policeman who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend in Kumasi, Ghana has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The suspect, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, who is said to be married, shot the lady five times before he fled in a tricycle.

According to reports, he accused the deceased, Victoria Dapaah, also known as MaaAdwoa, of cheating on him.

Prior to her death, the deceased met with the police officer Thursday evening, April 20, 2023, at the forecourt of Dufie Towers in Adum Kumasi.

In a CCTV footage shared on social media, the officer was spotted having conversation with Maa Adwoa, kissed and hugged the lady before shooting her to death.

A family member explained that the lady was heard pleading with the policeman also known as 'Tycoon' not to kill her and that she had not cheated on him.

He claimed that the police officer fired a bullet into the lady’s head, two in her chest and two in her stomach.

“Whiles having the conversation, the man pulled out the gun and she screamed out and said, Ah Tycoon don’t kill me! I don’t have anything doing with the man. He fired the first shot at her forehead, then two on her chest, and then two on her belly. After the bullets got finished, he cocked the gun to load more bullets and realized that he was been watched so he entered a tricycle aimed at the driver and moved.

“You are married with kids. A whole police inspector. Even when you are married to someone, it is unjustifiable to kill your partner because she has cheated. This is even a mere relationship so what right do you have?” he quizzed.

Mother of the deceased, Madam AdwoaNyarko, appealed in an interview for justice to be done, adding that her daughter received a call and then went out to visit the person.

She noted that the family was unable to confirm whether the lady was dating the suspect.

"So, the family is requesting that justice be done in this case," she said.

Upon his arrest, the police officer was stripped off all his titles and position as he admitted to committing the crime during his first trial at Asokore Mampong Circuit Court.

Explaining his own side of what happened, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, said he called Maa Adwoa last Thursday’s evening to meet him at the forecourt of Dufie Towers (Adum-Kumasi) to take back the GHC5000 he loaned her but unfortunately, they engaged in a heated argument and it consequently resulted in the murder.
The officer owned up to all the charges that have been levelled against him.

According to the police report, the suspect is currently in police custody pending prosecution.
