A yet-to-be-identified man has been killed by gunmen at Ojo-Igbede in the Ojo area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred on Saturday, July 19.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim had stepped out to buy a plate of food from a vendor in the community when two men on a motorcycle approached him.

An eyewitness who craved anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident told our correspondent on Saturday that the two unidentified assailants who wore caps forced the deceased victim to kneel and shot him in the process.

Other customers present at the scene were said to have scampered for safety.

The source said, “The victim is new in this area, and no one knew his name. He had only come out to buy cooked food. While he was in the queue with others, two men on a motorcycle arrived at the spot and beckoned to him to come. The moment he moved close to them, they asked him to lie down. At first, he declined. He obliged shortly after, and that was when he was shot in the head. He had barely spent five minutes when the attack happened.”

In a photo sent to PUNCH Metro, the deceased was seen lying in a pool of blood as residents gathered around him.

An anti-cultism advocacy page on X also shared details of the incident, stating that the deceased had just moved into the area.

“Another man was killed in Ojo in the second video. Aye cultists claimed it, but there was controversy surrounding the victim’s affiliation. Sources confirmed that the victim had just moved into the area and went out to buy cooked food.”

While waiting for his turn, men on a bike called him out, told him to kneel (others said lie down), then shot him in the head multiple times before driving away,” the platform stated.

Another resident who gave his name simply as Bode said the incident caused panic in the community.

He said, “There was serious panic in the area after the incident, and this made us work more on our security because we don’t know who is next.”

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday, were unsuccessful as calls to his line went unanswered. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.

PUNCH Metro reported on Friday that the Lagos State Police Command arrested three suspects for stabbing a man, identified as Scoro, to death during a public brawl in the Lagos Island area of the state.

Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened on Tuesday when Scoro was attacked by a group of guys who were attempting a reprisal on another group over a dispute related to building ownership.

NaijaConfra, which shared details of the incident on its X handle noted that a group had attacked another and, in the process of a reprisal, Scoro was stabbed to death.
