Man remanded for selling dad to ritualist for N1.8m

Three persons who were fingered for the kidnapping death of an 82-year-old man have been remanded at the correctional facility in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, by a magistrate’s court sitting in Ado-Ekiti.

The deceased was identified as Michael Obasuyi.

The suspects Sunday Obasuyi (42), son of the deceased; Akinniyi (51) and Bobafe Sunday (51) have ben remanded pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) per the orders from the Magistrate, Bankole Okuwasanmi.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants conspired and kidnapped the aged man on February 1, at about 11am in Agbado-Ekiti, Gbonyin LGA, and that his corpse was, some weeks, later discovered in a shallow grave, Daily Trust reports.

The prosecutor further alleged that the first defendant, Obasuyi, conspired with Akinniyi and sold his father for N1.8m to the third defendant, Sunday, who was an herbalist.

He noted that the offenses contravened Sections 280, 279 and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021
