Manchester City handed Spanish side, Real Madrid, a shocking 2-1 home defeat in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

The victory on Wednesday night gave Manchester City their first-ever win against Real Madrid.

Madrid went ahead in the second half when Vinicius Junior raced towards goal before neatly squaring for Isco to slot home.

All things were in favour of the Spanish team until the 78th when City's Brazilian forward, Gabriel Jesus slotted in the equaliser.

City finally stole the show in the 83rd-minute courtesy Kevin de Bruyne's late penalty to ensure the Citizens fought back from a goal down to beat Real Madrid and take control of their Champions League last-16 tie. [BBC]

It got even worse for Real Madrid when they were reduced to 10 men with five minutes remaining. Sergio Ramos brought down Jesus as he ran through on goal and the defender was shown a red card.

Real Madrid will be at the Etihad Stadium next month for the second leg of the UCL round of 16.
