Maja happy after Bordeaux win

One-capped Super Eagles striker Josh Maja is over the moon after he scored the only that helped Girondins Bordeaux secure all three points against Nîmes Olympique as they continue their push to return to the topflight.
Maja scored in the 81st minute to help his French club side keep their hope of playing in the Ligue 1 next season alive.

The strike takes his goal tally in the league to 12 this season, two goals less than Georges Mikautadze and Jean-Philippe Krasso, who have both scored 14 goals.

After 28 games played so far this season, the Marines and Whites, as they are fondly called, currently occupy the second spot with 50 points, seven points behind Le Havre, who are top of the table.

In an interview with beIN Sports (via Made in Girondins) after the game, the 24-year-old while expressing his delight shared his thoughts on the match and their chances for promotion.

“We must continue after the break,” Maja said. “It’s very good for the club; we won, we took the three points. We have to continue after the break. We are happy. For the rest, we have to continue in this good state of mind, in training, to hope to win even more.”

The striker now has 12 league goals this term and will hope to continue his form after the international break and help his team secure promotion to Ligue 1.

Despite his brilliance in France’s second tier, Maja has been overlooked by Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, for Nigeria’s latest squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau this week.
