Madagascar records first COVID-19 death

Madagascar has recorded its first COVID-19 death since the virus was discovered in the country two months ago.

Before now, the country which recorded over 300 cases of COVID-19 had not recorded any death caused by the virus.

This has been largely attributed to a home-grown herbal product which President Andry Rajoelina says cures COVID-19.

The herbal product is made from Artemisia, a plant which has anti-malaria properties.

Many African countries have received a portion of the product including Nigeria where it is being subjected to analysis.

This comes amid a warning from the World Health Organization, WHO, against “adopting a product that has not been taken through tests to see its efficacy”.
