National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo, has publicly appealed to President Bola Tinubu and aviation regulators to pardon Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as Kwam 1.
The 68-year-old music veteran is serving a six-month no-fly ban following allegations of breaching aviation rules during a ValueJet Airlines flight from Abuja to Lagos.
Legit.ng reported that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria accused Kwam 1 of allegedly bringing alcohol onboard, a practice prohibited on domestic flights in Nigeria.
The situation reportedly escalated into an altercation with a flight attendant, prompting intervention from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo. Both authorities moved quickly to impose the ban while investigations continue.
‘Like a Prodigal Son…’
In a statement shared on Instagram, MC Oluomo likened Kwam 1 to a prodigal son who has realised his mistakes.
He wrote: “To His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I humbly and fervently appeal to you to exercise mercy and forgiveness towards Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1). Like a prodigal son, K1 has acknowledged his mistakes, is sincerely apologetic, and is willing to make amends. I respectfully and earnestly request that the NCAA’s Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, and the Minister of Aviation, Barrister Festus Keyamo, consider tempering justice with mercy by lifting the ban imposed on K1 and the pilot, Oluranti Ogoyi.”
MC Oluomo’s message was not only directed at the President but also at top aviation decision-makers. He appealed for Kwam 1 and the pilot involved in the incident to be given another chance.
His statement framed the issue as reconciliation rather than punishment, urging authorities to look beyond the controversy and focus on restoration.
