Nigeria defender Igoh Ogbu has signed a one-year contract extension at Czech champions Slavia Prague, trashing speculations of a possible exit in the summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ogbu has been very impressive at Slavia Prague since joining from Norwegian club Lillestrom two years ago. The Nigerian defender has even grown to become the most important defender at the club.
He has made 93 appearances for the club with five goals and three assists to his name, helping the club win the Czech Cup and the Czech league.
Ogbu is a very strong defender with a massive aerial presence. He is also very good with the ball on his feet and hardly makes mistakes.
Following his impressive performances for Slavia Prague, there have been speculations about his future, with French Ligue 1 club Lyon, Lille, and Lens touted as potential destinations.
Ogbu's contract was also set to expire at the end of 2026, meaning that Slavia Prague would be forced to sell if he did not sign a contract extension.
However, those talks have now been momentarily binned, as Slavia Prague have announced that Ogbu has signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until December 2027. This means that the Nigerian defender will not switch clubs for at least the next year.
Igoh Ogbu has to keep shinning to get a big move soon
Now that Igoh Ogbu has signed a new deal, it means that he will remain at Slavia Prague for at least a year.
However, he must also be looking at moving to a bigger club in a bigger league. As such, he has to continue shinning at Slavia Prague. If he continues to perform well, he will surely get offers from big teams.
Meanwhile, he was recently named in the Unity Cup. With the usual big boys absent, Ogbu has a good opportunity to make his mark.
He will hope to shine and help the Super Eagles achieve success. Perhaps, that might be convince coach Eric Chelle that he deserves a place in the first team.
