Lockdown: Police begin night patrol across Lagos

Lagos State Police patrol Lagos State Police patrol

In order to ensure the safety of Lagosian, the Lagos State Police Command has begun patrol across the state, MyNigeria gathered.

This is coming after numerous reports of robbery attack on unsuspecting Lagosian, one which has risen as a result of the coronavirus lockdown initiated by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

With the extension of the lockdown by an additional 14-days, fears of heightened criminal activities will be a major concern.

The police notified Lagosians of their movement via Twitter, urging people to stay at home.

"Our Night Patrol has begun. One of our teams is presently patrolling Isheri, Magodo and Ojodu Berger.

"We will be combing the city to ensure everyone is safe and secure. Pls stay at home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. #TheGoodGuys," according to the command's Twitter account @@rrslagos767.

There have been reports linking these criminal activities to two separate gangs of thieves known as the "One Million Boys" and the "Awawa Boys" although the police have not apprehended any suspect.

State Governor, Babjide Sanwo-Olu has promised to deal hoodlums a vital blow and assured residents that he would improve response time.

"On security, there have been reports of pockets of insecurity across different areas and intelligence has shown a combination of exploitation by criminal elements. The Police have been responsive but in the last 24 hours we have worked to increase surveillance and response time," Sanwo-Olu said.
