Nigeria international Victor Boniface could be on his way out of the Bay Arena this summer, as Bayer 04 Leverkusen have slapped a €50m price tag on the striker, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The former Bundesliga champions, who recently appointed ex-Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester United gaffer Erik ten Hag to be their new manager, are seemingly preparing for life under the Dutchman, following the departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid and could let Boniface out the door in order to fund new signings.
According to German outlet, Sport Bild, Bayer Leverkusen have lowered their asking price for Boniface to the tune of €50m, as they are looking to offload him this summer. He was close to sealing a €70m to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr during the January winter transfer window before the Saudi Arabian side changed their minds and signed Colombian ace Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.
Boniface, 24, enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign with Leverkusen, as he scored 21 goals and provided nine assists in 34 games across all competitions, to help Die Werkself win the Bundesliga title and also the DFB Pokal crown, while the club reached the final of the UEFA Europa League in 2024, losing 3-0 to Italian Serie A side Atalanta.
However, The former Union Saint Gilloise and Bodo Glimt hitman endured an underwhelming 2024/2025 campaign, mostly due to injury and fitness issues, in which he managed only eight league goals and two assists in 19 top-flight appearances. In all, he scored just 11 goals in 27 outings for Leverkusen, which amounted to 1,387 minutes of action.
Boniface’s struggles saw him relegated to the bench during Alonso’s final months in charge. Also, his on-pitch bust-up with teammate Emiliano Buendia in their 4-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt further limited his playing opportunities, with club bosses concerned about his behaviour.
It is left to be seen whether Boniface would depart Germany for pastures new. However, the 12-time capped Super Eagles star will not be short of suitors when the transfer window opens, as he gets set to join the likes of Xabi Alonso, Jonathan Tah, Jeremie Frimpong and potentially Florian Wirtz, who have left the club.
