Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he's ready for the African Democratic Congress because former vice president Atiku Abubakar does not believe in zoning formula.

Amaechi and Atiku are both contesting to emerge as the ADC presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Speaking with Trust TV, Amaechi stated that despite the presidency being the turn of the Southern part of Nigeria, he's eager to fight for the ADC ticket at the primaries against Atiku, a northerner.

Asked if he believes in zoning, he said, "Yes and No. Yes, because I believe Nigeria is not yet a United entity. So, if it's the turn of the South, it's the turn of the South but Vice President Atiku says he doesn't believe in zoning, so okay, let's go to the Primary."

When asked if he believes another contestant, Mohammed Hayatu-deen, could step down for Atiku, he said, "Amaechi: I wish them luck. Let me repeat this, there is a colleague of mine I told be careful, if Tinubu wins in 2023, you will go to jail. He is there now. I went to an elderly man in Buhari's Government, if Tinubu wins it won't be easy, and I saw him now he is suffering. The same way I am pleading with my colleagues and friends from the North, let's not play North and South politics, I don't like it, let's not do it. I want to copy former President Obasanjo, he is a Nationalist. You might not like him, I had disagreements with him, but he is a Nigerian President, not a Yoruba President."
